How To Setup A WordPress Website | HostGator And BlueHost Tutorial

In this article, I’m going to explain how you can set up a WordPress Website using one of the best Webhosting out there which is HostGator or BlueHost if you want. Both of them are very similar with minor differences.

Table of contents:

What is Webhosting?

Imagine you are using your smartphone to take a picture. Where does this picture store? Obviously in your smartphone’s memory. Now, what if I tell you to share your picture with me. How would you do it?

Well, if I were you, I would upload my picture on a storage on the internet like Google Drive and then share the location of that picture with anyone I’d like. That way, if you do the same and share your picture with me I can access that by just simply click on your shared link, but to do that, you needed to upload it on the internet so I can have access to that, right?

This is how a Webhosting works! Your Webhosting company gives you some very unique services so you can build your website on your host and the world can have access to your website hence your articles, files, services and so on.

But since this job is very technical and not anyone can have it’s own Webhosting services in his/her laptop, we pay other companies so they can give us these services which we use to run our website. Not only they make our world very easy, they’ll also make sure our website is up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

We don’t have to be worry about anything. Our website can have thousands or even millions visitors a day without crashing, it is secure and safe, and they will give us the highest quality and support as possible.

So the first step to set up our website is to have a great Webhosting which I’m gonna explain in detail in this article.

How to set up your website on HostGator Webhosting?

First of all, you need to click on my referral link so it takes you to the HostGator website. By using my link, they know I’m sending you to them so if any kind of special offer or discount was available they will offer that to you. Also, you can later use my support and if you have any questions I’ll help you to find your answer.

At this date that I’m writing this article, HostGator has 3 plans which you can choose one of them.

HostGator hosting plans
  • Hatchling Plan is the cheapest one ($2.75/month). If you only need to have one website, this is for you.
  • Baby Plan is my recommendation ($3.50/month) because, with a little extra charge, you can have unlimited websites up and running on your Webhosting server.
  • And finally, there is a Business Plan ($5.25/month) with extra features if you need them.

I should also mention, HostGator has other pro services too. But since this article is for beginners and you might also don’t need them, I skipped them.

After you chose your plan, it is time to chose your domain name. The good news is, HostGator offers a 1-year free domain so you don’t have to pay for your domain name for your first year.

HostGator FREE .com domain name

To choose a domain name you need to find a unique name which hasn’t already taken. Just like when you want to create a Gmail account and Google won’t let you to choose any name, so just like that you can’t register any name like for example

The next step is to check your plan and billing cycle.

HostGator 60% off for 36 months plan

As you can see in the picture above, if you wanna receive a 60% off on your chosen plan, you can set you billing cycle to 36 months which is amazing because hopefully you need your website for a long time not just a few months.

Also please notice that you can always ask for a full refund if you’re not happy about the HostGator services, so in that case you can be sure about your Webhosting services and quality.

HostGator 45-day money back guarantee

Now that you chose your hosting plan and set a unique domain name for yourself, it is time to see if you want anything else.

HostGator other options

In my opinion, you don’t need any of these options but if you want, you can go ahead and choose whatever you want.

Also, you will get a free SSL certification and I will teach you later how to activate it.

OK, after you double-checked everything, now it is time to pay for your services. You can either pay with a credit card or even your PayPal account. If your transaction was successful you will get an email like this:

HostGator confirmation email

Make sure to keep these information safe and secure and don’t let anyone see them because they can easily access to your website.

Also, please notice if you asked me to set up your website for you (as I already explained here), this information is what I will need. Especially your Control Panel Address, Username, and Password.

Now it is time to install you WordPress website. One way and the easiest way which I’m gonna explain it here is to use the HostGator One-Click installation feature. All you need to do is, login to your dashboard, and click on the Manage Package button just like the following picture:

HostGator Dashboard

After finding your WordPress package, click on that and in the next click on the One-Click Install feature:

One-Click Install feature

And finally, here you can choose your website name, your website username and password and other important information:

HostGator WordPress settings

If you did everything just as I explained, you’ll see this page which lead you to your WordPress dashboard (Your WordPress dashboard is different than you HostGator dashboard):

HostGator installation successful page

Now that you have your website up and running, it is time to activate your free SSL certification so your website can be secure through https protocol instead of http.

To do so, login to your HostGator dashboard again, and by clicking on your SSL certificates link, make sure it’s on and activated just like this picutre:

HostGator SSL settings

Last but not least, go to your WordPress dashboard, click on settings, then on general settings you will see your WordPress and site address or URL. All you have to do is to change your URL from http to https:

Congratulations. You managed to set up your first WordPress website using HostGator.

How to set up your website on BlueHost Webhosting?

Now that you know how to set up a WordPress website, I’m gonna walk you through this process again, but this time I’m gonna explain it with BlueHost Webhosting.

First of all, you need to click on my referral link so it takes you to the BlueHost website. By using my link, they know I’m sending you to them so if any kind of special offer or discount was available they will offer that to you. Also, you can later use my support and if you have any questions I’ll help you to find your answer.

Now, let’s go straight to the business. To this date that I’m writing this article, BlueHost has three plans vey similar to HostGator only with some minor differences.

BlueHost plans
  • The Basic plan is the cheapest one ($3.95/month). It has everything you need but you can only have one website with it.
  • My recommendation is the Plus plan if you want to have more than one website with unlimited storage ($5.95/month).
  • Also depends on your needs and your business, you can choose the Choice Plus plan too ($6.95/month).

I should also mention, BlueHost has other pro services too. But since this article is for beginners and you might also don’t need them, I skipped them.

Now after you chose your plan, all you have to do is get your free domain name just like explained earlier in this article:

Get a 1-year free domain name with BlueHost

If your domain name was available now it is time to create your account using either your Google account or just by filling out the BlueHost fields:

Create a BlueHost account

Next, you can choose your plan cycle and any kind of extra packages along with your webhosting plan if you want, but if you want my opinion, just buy Domain Privacy Protection. You might don’t need other packages:

BlueHost extra packages

Next, you can choose a password for your Bluehost panel just like the following picture:

Create a new password for you BlueHost panel

After that, Bluehost will ask you some information about your website so it can recommend you some plugins and themes. You might wanna skip this part:

BlueHost recommendation

And last but not least, you will see your BlueHost dashboard:

Bluehost dashboard

All you need to do is click on the WordPress button so it takes you to your website.

And now it’s time to set up your free SSL Certification just by changing the URL settings for your WordPress website:

Congratulations, now you have a WordPress website.

Thanks for your time.
